Art

What is art? In the modern days this is argued often, as many have different views on the concept. Wikipedia defines it as, "Art is the process or product of deliberately and creatively arranging elements in a way that appeals to the senses or emotions, especially beauty." I agree with this definition, but art can be argued, as God made everyone different. There are moral standards though, and somethings, for example few objects just glued together does not appeal to probably 99.9% of sane individuals. Which i would then not consider art. It needs to be creative.

Secular Humanism or Cosmic Humanism?

I believe that the Wizard of Oz is Secular Humanism. Cosmic Humanism believes that God is everything, while the Secular Humanism stands on the idea that of atheism, that humans are the only powers. This worldview fits for the story because the characters don't believe everything is god, they use the idea that hey hold all the power. For example after they meet with the wizard Dorthy find that she holds the power that sets her apart from home, as all she needs to do is tap her shoes. Also the lion, tin man, and scarecrow had courage, a heart, and a brain all along. This all describes a Secular Humanism worldview and not at all a Cosmic Humanism view.

Worldview in the Wizard of Oz

What do you need to look for when searching for the worldview of a text. What is the worldview of the Wizard of Oz?

When one is searching for a worldview the idea lies behind the text in the author. Everyone is bias and has their own worldview, some are just more discrete about it. An authors life can show alot of how they were influenced and what thier views are. Also other works that an author has published can reveal ideas and their views. Over all the worldview of a text is based on the worldview of the author.

The worldview of the Wizard of Oz is Cosmic Humanism. This is because all of characters are searching for something that is meaningful to them. Dorthy wants to go home, Scarecrow wants a brain, Lion wants courage and the tin man wants a heart. All of the characters are searching for someting different, but they all take the same path to the so called "God". Cosmic Humanism is the idea that every path leads to God, and this is how the story is told.
